In this shot it has dissolve as the first shot is still there as the other one is appearing and the first shot does not disappear until the second shot has completely shown, this gives the video an effect of showing you two different things at the same time. It also gives an effect of how the characters mind is working at that moment in time as with this shot it shows how drunk the character is that his mind is all over the place and he cannot see properly. This is conventional to the rap music genre because the target audience for rap is roughly around the ages of 16 - 25 and when you are around them ages you tend to go out a lot to parties and clubs, and when you go out you drink, so a lot of people may feel as though they can relate to what is going on in the music video. Close up shots are used to show the characters facial expression which helps the audience understand exactly how the artist is feeling. The lighting is not so great which makes the video hard to see but this gives us the same impression of what the artist is feeling, it shows that the artist is feeling down and the lighting is low and it shows how he cant see properly because of how much he has had to drink.

At this part of the music video the song plays in slow motion and during this the video slows down in time with the music using Slow Paced Editing, this gives it the effect as the music is just as slow, and it also shows how the character is feeling. But when it gets to him standing in the mirror it goes really fast all of a sudden using Montage Editing. Then quickly goes back into the slow pace when he starts drinking again. This shows us how drunk he is that he can’t think straight. This is conventional to his target audience and rap genre because when you are of the ages from 16-25 you do not want to watch anything boring and many different effects and camera shots make it interesting as something is always happening even if the character isnt doing anything it is still entertaining for the audience. It also makes it easier for them to understand what is going on in the music video. Medium shot to show the artists body language and from his body language and hand movements it gives the audience the idea that he is really stressed and irratated as he cannot stand still or stop moving. It seems as though he does not know what to do with himself. The artist is wearing all black and black usually represents a far from happy mood. This helps to show how down the artist is feeling.

Towards the end of the video they make you feel as if you are inside the car driving, as the camera angle is from inside the car and you cannot see no character, in this part they use Cross Cutting as when the car is moving it keeps on cutting from different location really quickly, so you almost don’t see it change but you know that it has changed. This is conventional to the music genre and target audience because of the same reasons as above. The song is based on him being drunk so everything will relate back to that because teenagers and young adults enjoy going out and getting drunk at those ages. Drake is able to get in touch with people's feelings with not only his lyrics but his music videos too. The lighting is low because the car is outside at late times of the night so it would not be relevant to have bright lighting when the storyline is supposed to be based around night time/early hours of the morning.
In this part they have a Fade, from the girl sitting down thinking of the boy then once the screen is completely back it quickly goes back onto the boy sitting down really drunk. This part happens in time with the music, as the music slowly fades quiet as the screen is going quiet then once its black the music is completely silent for about 2 seconds then the music starts again just as the video comes back on. This is showing a story thoughout the music video which is conventional because people may get bored of just seeing singers always dancing around and singing into the camera.
Throughout the music video there is always straight cuts, in this music video they do the straight cuts a lot very quickly aswell to get the story across very quickly without confusing the viewer. This makes everything happen quicker instead of dragging the story out and the veiwer getting bored. it also shows a lot happening in a short amount of time, showing a whole story in the space of 4 minutes and the audience are not confused and know exactly what is going on. Costume in this shot is conventional because it was the most fashionale outfit which was out at the time the song was released.

ReplyDeleteP2- You have made a good start in analysing the editing sounds that were used in the music video and you have also related to detailed examples throughout your analysis too.
To achieve a M2 you need to relate your main points back to the conventions of the music genre to show further understanding of why that editing styles was used.
